After a brief hiatus, the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Monitoring and Protection Agency (HYDRAA) is back in action, focusing on demolishing illegal encroachments in the Kukatpally area. This morning, the team began demolishing unauthorized constructions built on 7 acres of land within the Full-Tank Level (FTL) and Buffer Zone of Nalla Cheruvu Lake. Reports indicate that around 50 apartments and various buildings were constructed on this land, prompting the agency to take swift action.
In addition to Kukatpally, HYDRAA is also addressing encroachments in Ameenpur Lake and Krishnareddypet in Sangareddy district. Following a review of illegal constructions in Patelguda, Ilapur, and Shabunikunta near Beeramguda, officials initiated demolitions that left encroachers feeling apprehensive. Recently empowered with similar authority as other departments like Irrigation and Urban Development, HYDRAA can now act against individuals illegally occupying government land and water bodies within Hyderabad’s Outer Ring Road.
The agency’s renewed efforts come as part of a broader initiative by the Telangana government to reclaim encroached land and protect vital water bodies. With tight police security deployed around Nalla Cheruvu Lake during the demolitions, HYDRAA aims to restore order and ensure compliance with regulations regarding land use and environmental protection.
