Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan’s recent tour of flood-affected areas in Pithapuram, his constituency, has sparked controversy and criticism from opposition leaders, particularly former Janasena member Pothina Mahesh. Despite Kalyan’s substantial contribution of 6 crore rupees towards flood relief and his active involvement in review meetings related to his portfolios, he faces accusations of neglecting other affected areas like Vijayawada. These criticisms, however, appear to overlook Kalyan’s broader efforts in flood relief across the state. As the single largest individual donor for flood relief, Kalyan has demonstrated a commitment to addressing the crisis beyond his constituency. The accusations from YSR Congress leaders, who themselves have been notably absent from ground-level relief efforts, highlight the political nature of these criticisms. While Kalyan focuses on coordinating relief efforts within his ministerial purview, the opposition’s attempts to paint him as solely focused on Pithapuram seem to ignore his wider contributions and the government’s overall response to the flood situation.
